Try these two online encyclopedias, available through Gale Virtual Reference Library.

  • Countries and their Cultures
  • Encyclopedia of World Cultures

Search family OR marriage.

To find books, go to library.ship.edu.  Click the link to WorldCat in the center of teh page.
Enter Puerto Rico family in the keyword box and scroll down to select Books under Format.
Search.  Click on the resulting titles and write down the call number.

You will want to update the info found in books with journal articles.  Use the Databases List A-Z link in the left column of teh library homepage.  Click E.  Click EBSCOHost--All EBSCO Databases.  Leave Academic Search Complete selected.  Scroll down and select other databases that are relevant to your project.  For example, if this is a sociology class, select SocINDEX and Sociological Collection.  Write back if you need more suggestions for databases to search.

Enter Puerto Rico in the first box and marriage OR family in the second.

If the article is not available in full text, click Check Availability to see if the article is available in another database or in print in the library.  If the article is not available, use ILLiad to order it from another library.

If you have problems determining availabity or if you want suggestions for other databases to search.
